Case Number: 297

Before   After

This patient has disease of the lesser saphenous vein, which goes down the back of the calf. Interestingly, patterns of vein disorder above the knee on the outside of the leg are often an indication that the lesser saphenous is the culprit. Treatment of this problem involved laser destruction of the lesser saphenous with threading of the laser fiber into the vein, local anesthetic, and then activation of the laser as it was withdrawn. This destroyed the lesser saphenous vein. In followup, the patient was injected with foam sclerosing liquid in order to improve and destroy the diseased veins. The patient’s symptoms of swelling and pain went away after the treatments were performed.

Surgeon: Charles Mok, D.O.
