Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Bras
The most popular and sexy American bra manufacturers are busy destroying the breasts of American women. They are making bras that don’t support the breasts very well and are encouraging use of bras that aren’t big enough. We consider proper bra fitting as an important part of the follow-up for all breast augmentation cases.

An A-cup or a B-cup breast may hold up and not sag even without good bra support but the “C” or “D” cup sizes typically seen after surgery will not. If the proper bra isn’t worn, your breasts might be looking at the ground in as short a time as a year! Patients should understand that the first 9 months or more after an implant surgery are when the “capsule” or scar forms around the implant. This capsule serves an important function. It provides some degree of support to the breast (though in some cases it can become too hard and necessitate some sort of therapy). If you wear the right bra most of the time during this critical post-operative period, your capsule can be shaped in a proper manner and make the breast take the right contour. We encourage our patients to wear that bra most of the day and night for these 9 months and to continue consistently wearing the bra after that for best results. Note also that some women (Judy for example) think that a good bra can improve even a saggy breast if worn consistently. Yes, that’s right, some droopy breasts can actually be treated with a good bra and it may improve a bit.
What is a good bra? It is one that holds the entire breast—not just part of the breast—and one for which you can feel the pressure on the shoulders due to the weight of the breasts. If you don’t feel pressure on your shoulders your bra is just too flimsy to support much weight and your breasts will sag under their own weight. The best bras have wide straps on the shoulders so the strap won’t cut into the skin. A workout bra is not necessarily the best, because it’s usually too stretchy to keep the weight off the breasts.
Where do you find the best bras and how much should they cost? Marshalls, Target, and Ross are good places to start. Good quality under-wire bras can be purchased for under $10.00 each. Those $45.00 fancy bras with the thin support straps just aren’t the best for anything but a night on the town. You can wear them occasionally, but keep them in the drawer most of the time.
